Discover your ancestors’ immigration journeys and how to uncover the various reasons they came to Australia.
The reasons people immigrated to Australia were as diverse and varied as the paper trails they left behind.
Did economic conditions in their home country persuade them to make the long journey out? Were they sent here as convicts or lured by the potential riches of the goldfields? Many had their fare paid for them if they came out via one of the assisted immigration schemes used to boost the colony’s population. Some were simply following loved ones already here.
This Family History Month, join us at Tamworth City Library for a special webinar to learn some of the reasons people started a new life in Australia, and how their journeys will impact the records that are left behind for you to discover today.
The 1-hour webinar workshop is presented by State Library of NSW and hosted at Tamworth City Library on Thursday 20th August 2026 at 10:30am.
