Event Description

Despite her deep loneliness, Sophie finds hope, company and, maybe, love in books.

After the success of her Women’s Prize for Fiction–shortlisted novel Sorrow and Bliss, Meg Mason wanted to write something completely different: a cheerful character. Described by Bonnie Garmus and Ann Patchett as smart, heartbreaking and hilarious, Sophie, Standing There is a hopeful story of a woman entwined in the literary industry and besotted with one particularly brilliant, beautiful and wise author’s work.

Join Meg as she launches her latest novel in conversation with the fashion editor of The Australian Financial Review Lauren Sams.

Temporary access to this recording is with thanks to the Sydney Writers Festival and the State Library of NSW.
